Had Time To Go Striper Fishing Today

Went up to the duct this afternoon and casting out
trying different lure and retrieves and 35 minutes
later landed this one and boy did it put up a
fight. I fought it for a while and got it in.
Caught it on a rainbow trout lure. This Striper
weighed 14 lbs 4oz and 34 inches long. Caught
another one on a Braid lure from Braid Products,
it was 4 lbs 2oz.

FISHING REPORT

Hey Bill ,

Sorry about just now getting back to you but the
near 100 degree heat in Bakersfield yesterday
wiped me out.

Anyway the Bakersfield attachment is from
yesterday and Quail Lake is dated and they were
all caught on cut anchovy from the duct gates
leaving Quail Lake heading for Pyramid Lake which
you are not suppose to fish. Why? I don't know!

Now! Back to yesterday.

I had expected the trip to be more productive but
you know as well as I that no matter how much of
it we get right the fish have the final say.

Because of weak spots in my line two of them are
wearing my two favorite RAT-L-TRAPs for hood
ornaments. The big one was 22" and the other was
just big enough to keep.

When I got to the first of the 3 spots right
before the sun came up and within 10 to 15 minutes
I could already see pretty good. So I headed
through gate to the water to find fish jumping up
and down that section continuously but not one hit
on any of my jigs then finally caught the little
one on chicken liver and then they wouldn't even
hit that. I noticed that there was a ton of trash
all around the shore there from idiots who are too
lazy to pick their trash up an put it in the can
just inside the gate as you leave." THAT REALLY
PISSES ME OFF! " So that place gets heavily fished
and there is still a lot of fish to be caught
there.

Opened my cell phone to check the time, it was a
little after 9 am and it was getting really hot
plus the bite wasn't working there for me anyway.
So I headed to the next spot. Now! In my opinion,
if it's worth anything , this spot has a ton a
potential and fish and if you would like I could e-
mail you a Google Earth Map of this spot. It seems
to be twice as wide as most places and a bit
deeper with all kind of bait fish along the edge
in the weeds. That's where I lost 2 then I had to
leave because the heat was to unbearable. Then I
was thinking about heading home and it was after
12 noon so I decided to have lunch at the
McDonalds at the 5 Frwy and Laval Rd. it's right
at the base of the grape vine. So I cooled off
while I had lunch and when I went out to my truck
I noticed the clouds had rolled in and it was a
little humid but quite a bit cooler so I looked at
my directions to my 3rd spot and it turns out it
is less than a ½ mile away. (from the 5 you go
west on

Laval Rd. which is pretty much a truck stop or
rest area (it's loaded with fast food places) and
you to the end which is only about a ¼ mile, then
you can go right or left and directly in front of
you is a big cow pasture. You make a left and
you'll see a stop sign about another ¼ mile ahead,
pull up to that stop sign and the duct is about
50' past it. Well I grabbed my to bait casters and
my 2 boxes of jigs and hit it. Try to decide what
to throw first I realized I had not tried any of
my soft baits yet so I grabbed one of the white 4"
STORM jigs that you said you've had good luck with
and not thinking much of it because they have not
done anything for YET. I shot it way out there and
it hit the water, I cranked it no more than 3 or 4
turns and WHAM!!! HE NAILED IT ! And I nail him
then I through about everything in both jig boxes
twice and nothing looked at it. I didn't get home
till almost 6 pm.

And that my report.

If you want maps of the places I fished just let
me know.

You can post the pics on your site if you would
like and if not it doesn't really matter to me.
That goes for the report also. Boy it' a log
winded one seeing how much I hate typing.

Anyway send some input and I'll talk to you later.

YOUR FRIEND JOHN!<P>

Thanks John for your Great report. Congrats to you
and keep on fishing. Good Job! Striper Bill
